Iceland

We made it to Iceland!!!

And we are off! Flying for almost 6 hours. We left at 8:30 pm and arrived at 2:30 am our time; however, it was 6:30 am Icelandic time!

The back of the van is loaded with our luggage, now we have 24 hours to explore!

Cafe Loki

Although its 7:30 am, in Iceland, most places don't open until 11:00 am. Although none of us ordered it, they did serve fermented shark!

Hallgrimskirkja Church

was our second stop after breakfast. We went up to the top of the tower to hear the bells, take in the view of the city, and then returned to see the inside of the church. Due to them warming up for a special performance, we were unable to go in very far. We were able to hear some incredible singing.

Of course, I was on the wrong side when the bells went off; however, if you look closely at the video, you can see them.

"The Golden Circle"

After the church, we walked around the city before heading out to drive "The Golden Circle" The Iceland Golden Circle is a popular scenic route in Iceland, featuring three main attractions: Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, and the Geysir geothermal area. It's a loop that starts and ends near Reykjavik, offering a great way to experience Iceland's natural beauty within a day.

The day consisted of cold, wet, on-and-off rain. We were able to travel the entire "Golden Circle," where we saw waterfalls, geysers, horses, and the continental divide.

Iceland is bisected by the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which is the divergent boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. I was on one and Kirk is on the other.

The only place in Iceland where you can touch two tectonic plates at once is under the water at Lake Silfra.
