Monday, August 10- Gross Reifling, Austria
Today, Shannon, Sue, Anna, Pat, Jenny, and Jo drove out to Eisenerz which is an old mining town. In that town their was the most beautiful blue lake with mountains in the background. Of course pictures don't do it justice! On our way to the lake we stopped at the local grocery store, SPAR, to pick up some meat and cheeses for a picnic lunch. After walking 1/2 way around the lake, we stopped for lunch and then got into our swimsuits. Nope, no changing rooms, so we did it the European way! Right there in woods/open, we changed into our swimsuits. After a beautiful swim, we finished our walk around the lake with a stop at the end for cappuccino and ice cream.
We returned to the cabin and had Pat’s homemade fettuccine Alfredo. Danny suggested that we drive to a nearby town to see the sunset from a castle. This sounded like a marvelous idea so we quickly jumped in the car and drove to the castle, St Gallen. We thought we could drive all the way to the top of the castle, but learned we had to do a half mile vertical hike to the to the top of the castle. of course the hike was worth it for the view and working off all of the fettuccine Alfredo.
A view of the town as the sun is setting behind the mountains.
